10 Benefits of Aligning What You Sound Like With Your Professional Role and Values

Do you like the sound of your speech and voice? Are you aligned? By that I mean do you sound like the executive leader that you are? If not, let me tell you how great communicators benefit when they align and sound like leaders using their speech, language and voice skills:

1.      More authentic

If you are intentional about the way you want to be perceived and then work on the skill set that will help you sound that way, your authenticity can’t help but show through.

2.      More likeable

No one is going to buy into your initiatives, your ideas, your products or your services unless they like you. When you remove distractions, negative tones of voice, etc. you become more likeable. Once you are likeable, you become…. (see #3)

3.      More trustworthy

A voice must first be likeable before your audience trusts you. You might consider your own shopping habits and how you trust the people you like before “buying” from them.

4.      More respected

Changing the words that you use and the control of what and how something comes out when you speak will give you the respect that you want.

5.      Increased self-confidence

Feeling good about the way you sound has a lot of impact on both the people around you and yourself. A transformation in the way you speak will significantly increase your self-confidence (which is worth its weight in gold)! Almost every client I have worked with comments on how much more confident they feel after working on their speech and voice skills.

6.      Improved public speaking

If you are fearful about speaking, it often manifests in your speech, language and voice. When you overcome your fear, you will manage these symptoms and convey confidence and feel more empowered.

7.      Climb the corporate ladder

Did you know that subscribers to the Harvard Business Review rated the ability to effectively communicate as the NUMBER ONE trait in making an executive promotable (even more than hard work, education, or ambition)? Executives who communicate well and do a lot more public speaking are going to stand out and be selected to new roles.

8.      Make more money

Back to #7…promotions usually mean that you will make more money.

9.      More influential

People listen to speakers who make their points concisely, tell interesting stories and show their passion about their topic. It’s attractive and brings influence along with it.

10.  Easier to understand

There are many areas of speech, language and voice that can affect how understandable you are including diction/pronunciation, your rate of speech, your loudness level, or your ability to be concise and clear about the points that you make. When you remove these barriers, you are much easier to understand.
